The Five S's of Back-to-School Shopping

Parents and students are preparing for the new school year, and one important task that needs to be fulfilled is back-to-school shopping. Purchasing school supplies can get costly, especially with multiple children. Learn Clark County Credit Union’s five S’s of back-to-school shopping to help save on clothes, shoes and supplies.

1. Slow Down

Instead of buying supplies right away, check around the house for any supplies you might have from previous school years. Check for things like notebooks, packs of pencils, and even markers/crayons.

2. See What’s Out There

Shop around and compare prices. Searching for supplies online gives you the opportunity to look around at different deals without the need to visit multiple stores.

3. Stick To the List

Make sure you have your child’s school supply list before you start shopping. Having a list of supplies for your child’s class eliminates purchasing unnecessary supplies.

4. Shop With Friends

If possible, buy in bulk and split the cost and supplies with friends. If you and another parent are shopping around together, it may be beneficial to buy items in bulk and then divide them afterward. This tip can also be useful while shopping for multiple children.

5. Set a Budget

Make sure you’re going to stores with a spending plan in mind. This will ensure you aren’t surprised with an unexpected bill after school starts.
